DEADLINE FOR ALL GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS AND PUBLIC AUTHORITIES TO DECLARE SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS TO AVOID TAKEDOWN

Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology Steven Matainaho has issued a circular instruction asking that all Government Departments and Public Authorities declare their social media accounts before 12 noon, Friday July 30, 2021.

“On 18 June 2021, I distributed a circular under the authority of NEC Decisions 252 of 2020 and 100 of 2021 requesting each Departmental Head and Head of Public Authority to declare all their respective domain names, websites, and social media accounts before 12 noon, Friday July 30, 2021.”

Secretary Matainaho said that the exercise was necessary in order to establish the scope of official social media accounts operated by Government Departments and Public Authorities to date.

“We are collecting and tabulating a list of all official Government-operated website and social media accounts across social media platforms including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube/Flickr, LinkedIn, and Instagram.”

Mr. Matainaho said that commencing on Monday August 2, 2021, the Department will publish a list of all official government social media accounts on www.ict.gov.pg and then immediately contact the respective social media company and formally request the take-down of social media accounts that do not make the published list.
