Twenty-seven staff members from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have successfully completed their National Certificate 2 in Government – Public Services Induction.

The four-day training, which commenced on Monday 28 October and ended today, was facilitated by the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG), with a certificate presentation ceremony at Holiday Inn, Port Moresby.

The newly inducted group comprises staff who joined the Department following a significant restructuring in 2021.

Through the induction, these staff members gained essential knowledge on the human resources processes of DICT and were introduced to the functions and responsibilities of operating within the public service.

DICT Deputy Secretary for Digital Government and Information Delivery, Mr. Russel Woruba, emphasized on the importance of the public service Oath of Loyalty.

He emphasized that the Oath binds officers to serve with honesty and integrity, reflecting the commitment DICT has made over the past two years toward improving service delivery and digital transformation.

“Our department is two years old, and we’ve made significant progress, with more to be done,” Mr. Woruba remarked.

He urged the new inductees to dedicate themselves to leaving a lasting legacy within the public sector.

SILAG’s Executive Director for Workforce Development and Training, Mr. Robert Nemala, also spoke at the event, stressing the importance of translating training into practical service.

“Training is one thing, but unpacking it and translating it into actual delivery is another,” said Mr. Nemala.

He highlighted SILAG’s role in strengthening the capacity of public servants, ensuring systematic, merit-based training in alignment with the directives of the National Executive Council (NEC).

Mr. Nemala also reinforced the values of the government’s culture and the significance of the 11 oaths taken by the inductees, which he described as fundamental principles guiding life and service.

“If you abide by it, it will help you; if you go out of it, it will remove you from Public Service,” he added.

Mr Seri, the Human Resource Manager, in his earlier presentation during the week gave a run down on how the Department of ICT have withstood challenges and came this far.

He added that the passing of the Digital Government Act in 2022 has defined the department’s true meaning and its purpose and with the new defined functions captured in the Act, the DICT stands as the forerunner of the government’s resolute pursuit of digital transformation agendas
