The Minister for Information and Communications Technology, Hon. Timothy Masiu, during the PNG Digital Transformation Summit 2024, officially unveiled the monthly trilingual ‘Gavamani Toktok’, the government’s newly branded development newspaper.
“I am proud to announce that the Department of ICT has revived the Gavamani Sivarai newspaper, rebranded as ‘Gavamani Toktok’, which will be printed monthly and will cover government policy and development news to keep our citizens informed of what we are doing in government,” Minister Masiu said during the summit.
Secretary for the Department of ICT, Mr. Steven Matainaho, explained that the new government publication will focus on national policies and development updates, ensuring citizens are well-informed.
“The July edition is now available for download in PDF format via the provided QR code,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Mr. Matainaho shared plans to further enhance Gavamani Toktok’s reach and accessibility.
“Moving forward, the plan is to expand the project with a dedicated news website and app for Gavamani Toktok,” he said. “Additionally, there are upcoming plans to initiate mass print and distribution at selected centers across Papua New Guinea.”
He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the National Media Development Policy 2024, highlighting the importance of improving government communication.
“The Department has recently completed the setup of a government information studio with the intent to create content on public policies and development initiatives for dissemination to citizens,” added Mr. Matainaho.
The launch of Gavamani Toktok marks a significant step in enhancing government transparency and communication, ensuring that vital information is easily accessible to the public.
