The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)  Secretary Mr Steven Matainaho highlighted several key advancements in the country’s digital infrastructure and services for the year 2024.

“We have fast tracked onboarding of various cloud services including IP address assignment, DNS, website, email to just over 140 government agencies,” Secretary Matainaho stated.

“Through an MoU with the PNG Digital ICT Cluster Inc., they are now charged to oversee the deployment of websites for all District Development Authorities (DDAs) and Provincial Health Authorities (PHAs) by the end of this year, 2024.”

He further emphasized, “We are also transitioning management of cloud infrastructure services, including the Government Private Network, to PNG DATACO LIMITED, enhancing efficiency and security.”

“In Cyber Security, our National Cyber Security Centre (CSOC) now monitors threats across over 75 government agencies and more than 1,000 endpoint devices,” Matainaho added.

“We will be launching the Citizens’ Government Portal in September 2024, streamlining essential transactional services,” Secretary Matainaho announced.

 “This portal will include a Digital Wallet App to manage digital certificates and permits, enhancing convenience and accessibility for citizens.

“The PNG Customs Service is leading the G2B Single Window Platform Project, aimed at simplifying business processes across all regulatory agencies,” he highlighted.

Mr Matainaho further added, Datec PNG Limited is initiating the scoping exercise for the eCabinet Project, and the National Procurement Commission, with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is beginning scoping for the eProcurement Project.

In the Department’s efforts to standardize endpoint devices for enhanced efficiency, “we are currently in the testing phase and finalizing arrangements with Telikom PNG to deploy a Corporate User Group (CUG) Mobile Plan across the entire public service.

“There is a lot of work in progress, and our focus remains on ensuring these efforts translate into tangible improvements in the lives of our people.”

The Department’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved and effective governance, efficiency, and citizen empowerment in the digital age also establishes PNG as a progressive player in the regional digital transformation landscape.
