Port Moresby is playing host to the 16th Asia Pacific Telecommunity Forum on telecommunication policy and regulation at the Hilton Hotel.
The three- day event staged from 30 August to 1 September ,2023 will see over a 100 high-level participants from the Ministries and Regulatory Authorities discuss common policy and regulatory issues in the region.
The Policy and Regulatory Forum (PRF) since its inception in 2002 has become one of the important forums for regulatory and policy makers.
It has provided members with the understanding and knowledge of the policy and regulatory best practices, also helping to inform members about emerging issues that countries need to consider in regulating their telecom environment while providing a sustainable and enabling environment for the telecommunication industry.
The PRF assists members to strengthen their policy and regulatory frameworks by sharing experiences and providing a platform to discuss key challenges and barriers including; Universal Access, Interconnection, Number Portability, Dispute Resolution, Competition and Introduction of new services.
The objective of APT Policy and Regulatory Forum (PRF) is to bring the telecommunication and ICT policy makers and regulators from the region together for dialogue on issues affecting them as a result of the unprecedented changes taking place in the ICT sector.
Promote sharing of expertise for addressing key issues of concern to the APT members, facilitate intra-regional collaboration on policy and regulatory issues and discuss sub-regional issues on equal representation basis.
PRF usually convene at least once a year or when deemed necessary and is led by a Chair and two Vice-Chairs.
