The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (UNITECH), that allows both parties to co-operate in domain name services management, and digital skills capacity building of digital transformation officers based at the national, provincial, district and local-level governments in the country, amongst others.

The Minister for ICT Hon. Timothy Masiu, witnessed the signing of the MoU between UNITECH’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Ora Renagi and Secretary of DICT, Steven Matainaho at the conclusion of the 2-day inaugural Digital Transformation Officers’ Workshop and Conference at the Hilton Hotel Port Moresby from 10-11 November 2022.

About 200 Port Moresby-based information and technology managers joined a participant each from Jiwaka and West New Britain provinces at  the conference.

In signing the MOU, both DICT and UNITECH recognized the importance of the depth and strength of the close relationship bother parties have, and the common vision for a greater acceleration, integration and digital transformation of Papua New Guinea’s economy.

Through the MoU, Department of ICT and UNITECH will collaborate to promote:

1. Exchange of information to demarcate the responsibilities to manage the Domain Name Services (DNS);
2. Promotion of digital skills through curriculum support of the Department of ICT of PNG Unitech;
3. Establishment and promotion of an industry internship program with the Department of ICT and  PNG Unitech;
4. Promotion of the Digital Transformation Centre; and
5. Establishment of a Technical Working Group to manage the implementation of activities under the MOU.

The Digital Transformation Officers’ Workshop and Conference is a first and will be hosted at the different regions in 2023.
